Understanding the Needs of First Time Moms:

Pregnancy is a unique and personal journey, and what each mom needs may vary. Your mom may have had really easy pregnancies but you may be having a more difficult time. Or you friend's pregnancy was medically complex but your pregnancy could be totally uneventful. Leaning on your community can help you learn and feel less anxious but remember that everyone's experience is different and there is no right or wrong way. These are my tips can make this period more comfortable, physically and emotionally.

  1. Maternity Clothes: Invest in a few comfortable and key maternity clothes that adapt to your changing body. Think stretchy leggings, supportive bras, and loose-fitting tops for day-to-day wear. My favorite pieces are in one easy list here.

  2. Prenatal Vitamins: Prenatal vitamin are crucial for the health of both mom and baby. Consult with your healthcare provider to find the right supplement that meets your specific nutritional needs. These Prenatal vitamins  gummies are my favorite and I took them for both pregnancies.

  3. Pregnancy Pillow: A pregnancy pillow provides support for your growing belly, back, and hips, ensuring a more restful sleep. There are various shapes and sizes available to suit individual preferences. I prefer the U shape, which is what I used for both pregnancies! There are also C shape, wedge, and all sorts of options.

  4. Sleep Aid: Pregnancy Insomnia is real so if you are struggling to sleep, check with your OB/GYN to see if they'll allow you a sleep aid. Mine approved Unisom for both sleep and nausea aid. It was a must have for me both pregnancies!

  5. Stretch Mark Cream or Oil: Keep your skin moisturized to minimize stretch marks. Look for creams or oils with ingredients like cocoa butter, shea butter, and vitamin E. I used the Bio Oil!

  6. Comfortable Footwear: Invest in supportive and comfortable footwear. As your pregnancy progresses, you may experience swelling, so choose shoes that provide ample space and cushioning. My favorite are these Kizik Irvine which are slip on sneakers so you don't have to bend to put them on.

  7. Hydration: Stay hydrated with a durable and portable water bottle. Proper hydration is essential during pregnancy for both you and your baby's well-being. My favorite is this cup because it has a handle and straw and is leakproof.

Helpful Tips for Expectant Moms:

  1. Regular Prenatal Check-Ups: Schedule regular prenatal check-ups with your healthcare provider to monitor your health and the baby's development.

  2. Gentle Exercise: Engage in low-impact exercises like walking, swimming, or prenatal yoga to maintain physical fitness and reduce discomfort. If you don't have a walking pad, I highly suggest investing in one! They are relatively inexpensive and can help you keep moving when the conditions outside are unfavorable. This is the one I reccommend!

  3. Healthy Nutrition: Focus on a well-balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains. I drank a protein shake every day and it helped to keep me full and prevent eating tons of empty calories. Consult with your healthcare provider for personalized dietary recommendations. This brand is my favorite kind of vegan protein.

  4. Educate Yourself: I highly reccommend attending prenatal classes locally and reading books about pregnancy and childbirth. Understanding the process can help alleviate anxiety and prepare you for the journey ahead. This book is great for first time moms. If you are expecting multiples, I highly recommend this book, it was my holy grail for my twin pregnancy.

  5. Self-Care Rituals: It is really important to prioritize self-care, which can be challenging. If you can, schedule a prenatal massage in the third trimester. Taking take warm showers with these shower steamers can help you relax and ease sore muscles.

  6. Connect with Other First Time Moms: Join local or online pregnancy communities to share experiences, ask questions, and build a supportive network of fellow moms-to-be. I followed other moms on instagram and joined my local, Western MA Moms Connect Facebook group. Search moms + your city on FB and there should be a group to join!
